Who We Are

We are the First Congregational Church of Sharon, MA -

an Open and Affirming Church of the United Church of Christ

What does that mean?

We are the only Congregational Church in the Town of Sharon, MA. "Congregational" means that we are a Protestant church in the Reformed tradition, practicing congregationalist church governance in which each congregation independently and autonomously runs its own affairs. You can read more about our history section on our home page.

We are an Open and Affirming Church, which means that we intentionally welcome and invite people of all walks of life as much as human diversity has to offer, but we intentionally affirm the full inclusion and dignity of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender and non-binary persons (LGBTQIA) in our church's life and ministry. Take a look at our ONA Statement!

Our church is a member of the United Church of Christ. The UCC is a distinct and diverse community of Christians that come together as one church to join faith and action. With over 5,000 churches and nearly one million members across the U.S., the UCC serves God in the co-creation of a just and sustainable world. The UCC is a church of firsts, a church of extravagant welcome, and a church where "…they may all be one" (John 17:21).
