The Community Food Pantry at the First Congregational Church of Sharon first began as an Eagle Scout Project by Joe Haviland of Troop 95 Sharon in June of 2013. Need for the Food Pantry has since grown over time, especially during the pandemic. Many people are experiencing food insecurity for the first time. Food insecurity is described as when a household is not able to provide enough food for every person to live an active, healthy life. Food insecurity is at an all-time high.
Our supporters are member of our community at large; members and friends of the church, neighbors, patrons of Shaws Sharon, families of The Sharon Cooperative School and Cooperative Nature School, local Boy and Girl Scouts, Food4Vets, Sharon Fire Dept. and so many more. Without this support, we could not keep our shelves stocked.
Monetary donations are always needed to help keep the Food Pantry operating . If you would like to make a monetary donation, please send a check payable to “First Congregational Church of Sharon”, write “Food Pantry” on the memo line, and send it to FCC of Sharon, 29 No. Main St., Sharon MA 02067. All donations will go to the food pantry fund and are used to purchase food for the pantry shelves and for our monthly Fresh Food Day.
Most of our food comes from our supporters. Our volunteers shop at local grocery stores, utilizing sales and purchasing food as needed to supplement what is received in donations.
We gratefully accept donations of non-perishable, not yet expired food items such as:
· Canned tuna, salmon, chicken, turkey, ham, stew, meat or canned pasta
· Beverages such as coffee, tea, fruit juice, juice boxes and shelf stable milk
· Flour, sugar, spices, condiments, cooking oil, white rice, canned tomatoes, pasta sauce
· Shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and other personal care items
· Laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, cleaning products, etc.
Food donations can be left in the white basket, inside the blue door at the back of the church during regular food pantry hours.
Perishable food or large food donations are accepted as space is available. Please call the church at 781-784-2631 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements.
Thank you for your support!!
