Haiti Assistance through Church World Service

Church World Services has issued an urgent plea for Hygiene Kits.

There will be a gathering to put together health kits at

UCC Stoughton, 76 Pierce St.

Thursday night, February 11th  6:30-8:30 pm.

You can help by donating kits, some of the items, $10 for the cost of a kit, $2 for the cost of postage for a kit or to join them and help assemble kits.

   Items needed are:  
One hand towel 16”x 28”
One wash cloth
One wide-tooth comb

One nail clipper

One bar of bath size soap in the wrapper

One tooth brush in the original packaging

Six standard size band aids.

Place all items in a one-gallon plastic bag with a zipper closure; remove excess air from the bag, and seal.  There is a basket in the Parish Hall for donations to be placed.  If anyone would like to go to Stoughton to help, please call the office.

Ken Barton

We have been saddened by the passing of our long time member and friend Ken Barton.  Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, January 23 at 11:00 a.m.  A collation given by the Dorcas Society will follow in the Parish Hall.  The following is from the Sharon Advocate.

 

Kenneth L. Barton Jr.

Kenneth L. Barton Jr. SHARON Kenneth L. Barton Jr., of Sharon, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, following a period of failing health. He leaves behind his loving wife Barbara; a son, M. Lawrence and his wife Karen, and their two daughters, Teresa and Makayla of Carlisle; a daughter, Susan Barton and her husband Frank Penacho, and their two daughters, Lindsay and Angela of Middleboro. He is also survived by two sisters, Nancy B. Hall of Wilmington, Del., and Ernestine Priebe of Williamsville, N.Y.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Ken was a graduate of Northeastern University and a retiree from the Foxboro Company. After retirement, he participated in the Re-Seed Program and taught in local schools. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed time spent at his home in New Hampshire. His pastimes included researching genealogy and collecting and repairing antique clocks. He served on several committees and was a member of the First Congregational Church of Sharon. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Congregational Church of Sharon, 29 North Main St., Sharon, MA 02067, or Ellis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 135 Ellis Ave., Norwood, MA 02062.

Join UCC urgent responce to HAITIAN RELEIF EFFORTS

The United Church of Christ has launched an emergency appeal for Haiti after the earthquake struck the country on January 12.  Thousands of people are feared dead and countless have been left homeless.  The need is massive. Your gifts are needed to support immediate and long-term relief.  Our Global Ministries personnel, Kim, Patrick and Solomon Bentrott, have reported to us that they are safe.

We are expecting very high loss of life, widespread destruction of homes, schools and other buildings, and major damage to key water, electricity and road systems.

Funds from the UCC's One Great Hour of Sharing are being rushed to our Haitian partners to support their initial emergency response.  However, your generous donations are needed to provide the greatest level of support for the victims of this terrible disaster.

Your prayers and monetary support are needed. Here is how you can help.  Please make checks payable to FCC of Sharon and write Haiti Relief in the memo line or place your cash donation in a yellow envelope. Write Haiti Relief and your name on the outside of the envelope.  The people of Haiti thank you for your rapid response to his tragedy.

Bazaar Disbursement Meeting

Sunday January 24, at 11:15 a.m. in the library, there will be a Bazaar Disbursement Meeting. members of groups and members at large are encouraged  to attend.

CHURCH POT LUCK SUPPER AND HISTORY NIGHT January 24, 5-7 pm

Come and hear stories from various church members about challenges met, pastors and their particular style, children and youth, FCC traditions and new things embraced.  Dinner which is potluck, will be organized by our youth groups.  Please call the office to rsvp, or sign up at coffee hour, so we know how many to set up for.

Epiphany Brunch

Dear Church Families, 
 
This Sunday, January 10th, the Christian Education committee will be sponsoring an Epiphany Brunch in the Parish Hall directly after Services.  This is a time to share a meal with our Church Family.  There will be an assortment of hot soups available, if your family joins us please bring either sandwiches, cheese/crackers, a veggie platter or a dessert to share.
